The Music of France

This episode we focus on the music of France starting with Maurice Ravel, one of the most extraordinary composers who ever lived. A person of exceptional refinement and imagination who created worlds of sound that had no precedent and which of really never been imitated. Claude Debussy, a great contemporary of Ravel’s, wrote some of the most extraordinarily innovative music of the 20th century. Now and then though he wrote what’s called pure music, abstract forms of quartets, sonatas and so on.
