Musical Soundscapes This episode we’re looking at cities rather than composers, and the first city, the fabled city of light is Paris. Maurice Ravel was not from Paris at all, he never really felt himself to be a Parisian, but he did of course live and work there. After Paris straight we head into rural England, to Thaxted where there’s an annual Gustav Holst festival. So, what better than to hear something from his St Pauls Suite. London’s great river, The Thames, has inspired innumerable songs.
