The Music of Europa! And in this episode, we are looking at the great question of nationalism in music which became the dominant event of music in the 19th century and continued into the 20th. And one of the greatest of all the nationalist composers was the Hungarian, Béla Bartók, who with his compatriot and friend, Zoltán Kodály, researched Hungarian folk music and indeed the folk music of many countries, rediscovering the language of music, transforming his own palate as a composer.
