Great film-noir with many twists gives this a poignant, tragic trajectory. Excellent performance from Richard Widmark as a smalltime American hustler in the London underworld, full of low-lives, hustlers, beggars, gamblers and other amoral characters. Herbert Lom is chilling as a mobster.
